New Tracks & This Week’s News!

Brand New Dropped ‘Science Fiction’

Firstly let’s talk about this new Brand New album! Science Fiction was dropped out of nowhere this week, massive surprise to me, first album since Daisy back in 2009 and wow, its really exceeded my expectations of what I thought it would be when I heard it had been suddenly released. They seemed like a band that were finished, releasing old demoes and teasing a new album for a long time. This album was very highly anticipated and for a very long time, they have such a huge fan base that this album had to be perfect, and it really is amazing. Its pretty haunting and it made them hairs stand up on the back of my neck, It feels so complete and so refined like they have been perfecting it all this time and if you haven’t heard it yet, then you are in for a treat.

Tom Delonge announced there will be a new Angels and Airwaves album!

So there’s some new Angels and Airwaves coming our way. We haven’t heard from them in a few years so it will be really exciting to hear how their sound has evolved since. I’m guessing a mid-late 2018 release date but I could be wrong, its coming though and that’s what matters.

The Maine drop the video for Taxi from Lovely Little Lonely

The Elation dropped an awesome new feel good song Feels Like a Good Reason to Get Started all proceeds made going to ‘Cork Gay Project’. Great bunch of lads and a song that will have you up and dancing from the first five seconds, check it out.

Deaf Havana have released an amazing new track Sickago. Having been a fan of Deaf Havana for so long this track is right up there with some of the best ones they’ve released, the Norfolk based rockers have been around for quite some time and they are finally getting the recognition and doing really well off the back of their latest LP All These Countless Nights. You need to check it out below!

These two tours over in the states have had us begging for a plane ticket over the past week! First Have Mercy announced a huge tour with Cant Swim, A Will Away and our favourite band to come from just down the road Boston Manor!

A couple of days later Emarosa started getting rather cryptic posting a date and time on their Instagram page, personally I thought it might have been the release of 131 Reimagined (When??!) but it turned out to be the announcement of what sounds like its going to be an amazing tour across the states with Jule Vera and A lot Like Birds. That’s going to be massive!

Sheffield based Indie Rock band The Sherlock’s released their long awaited debut album Live For The Moment and it is a seriously amazing debut. It’s incredibly infectious and after one listen you’ll be singing it in the shower without even knowing you’re doing it. Listen below, you’ll love it!

2017 Still Has Many More Great Albums To Offer, Here’s 12 To Get Stoked About!

Before we start getting excited for Christmas (That’s right! I’ve seen Christmas stuff up already, WTF?!!) lets just hold up a minute. 2017 isn’t done throwing some awesome new albums at us. 2017 has been so good for every sub genre of rock music already this year and I can see so many of this years albums being some of my all time favourites for years to come, But are some of the best still to come? Check out my list of 12 highly anticipated albums still to be released this year!

  1. Slaves – Beautiful Death (?? September)

With ‘I’d Rather See Your Star Explode’ being released a crazy 8 months ago already excited would be an understatement to describe how much I’m dying to hear the new Slaves album and its getting so close!

2. Nothing More – The Stories We Tell Ourselves (15th September)

Nothing More have released a few tracks of this album and they have been more than impressive, Heavy hitters like ‘Let ‘Em Burn’ and ‘Go To War’ are going to make for amazing live shows like we saw at the APMAs. Whilst ‘Just Say When’ makes us feel all warm inside. Its going to be an unbelievable album and I can not wait!

3. Alazka – Phoenix (September 1st)

Melodic Hardcore band Alazka recently pushed back their album release date by a week but I really don’t mind waiting another week to hear what is going to be one of the best albums 2017 has to offer. ‘Phoenix’ and ‘Ghost’ have been released as singles off the upcoming album and have completely blown me away, this is going to be something special, i promise you this.

4. Pvris – All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell (August 25th)

PVRIS need no introduction, beat heavy, radio ready, dreamy alt-rock. AWKOH/AWNOH is going to be massive and I have a feeling its going to be everywhere at the end of August. PVRIS just get bigger and bigger and at the same time better and better, roll on the end of August.

5. Circa Survive – The Amulet (September 22nd)

Circa Survive have a huge following and rightly so, they have given us some amazing albums in the past 12 years and this year will be no exception, The Amulet has the promise of being their most polished, beautiful album to date if the first track released ‘Lustration’ is anything to go by.

5. Knuckle Puck – Shapeshifter (October 13th)

‘Copacetic’ in 2015 has provided me hours of listening pleasure over the last couple of years but I’m definitely ready for the new Knuckle Puck album and ‘Shapeshifter’ is finally just around the corner. I think we can expect more awesome Pop Punk classics from these guys.

6. Fall Out Boy – M A N I A (January 19th 2018) 😦

Yes I know this album isn’t technically being released in 2017 now its been pushed back so far but hey! we can still be stoked for it because its going to be huge. I had mixed emotions about Young And Menace when I first heard it but Ive grown to really enjoy it! Pete Wentz said in an interview with Rolling Stone “I feel like every once in a while, you’ve gotta do a hard restart that clears the cache and erases the hard drive. I think that’s what ‘Young And Menace’ was – a big palette cleanse”

7. Senses Fail – If There Is Light It Will Find You (TBA)

Senses Fail have been around for a very long time now and they are still making great music, their latest EP ‘In Your Absence’ was no exception. Its proving that Senses Fail can do it all and their next album is definitely one to look out for!

8. Turnover -Good Nature (August 25th)

Beautifully crafted, dreamy indie rock is how I would describe this awesome quartet’s music. Its different and its so easy on the ear. I could (and do) just listen to Turnover all day, do nothing else and be quite content. Its going to be a beautiful album ‘Supernatural’ and ‘Sunshine Type’ have already been released off the upcoming album and they are simply wonderful!

9. Neck Deep – The Peace And The Panic (August 18th)

Welsh pop-punk band Neck Deep have come a very long way and have such a following that makes them one of the biggest pop-punk bands in the world right now and I know there are hundreds of thousands of people desperately waiting to get their hands on Neck Deep’s next album ‘The Peace And The Panic’.

10. Counterparts – You’re Not You Anymore (September 22nd)

Technically beautiful hardcore band Counterparts have been on the rise for a long time now and their new album ‘You’re Not You Anymore’ promises to be “The perfect blend of every record we’ve released prior” according to vocalist Brendan Murphy. Sounds awesome to me!

11. Seaway – Vacation (September 15th)

Emo – rock band Seaway have released two tracks off the upcoming album, ‘Something Wonderful’ and ‘Apartment’ prove that this album is going to be one of those superbly catchy pop punk album that’s going to have us screaming out the lyrics in delight when the full album drops mid September and leave us wishing it was summer all over again.

12. 30 Seconds To Mars – TBA

Its coming, its definitely coming. When? we aren’t so sure but the fact that there is going to be one in the next few months is extremely exciting. Check out the teaser trailer below.

The final quarter of 2017 is going to be awesome!

The Best Of Pop Goes Punk!

The ‘Punk Goes’ series has always given us another awesome way to look at our favourite bands and artists. The first of the 6 current Punk Goes Pop albums was released 15 years ago this year. Filled with some huge artists from way back when including Yellowcard 😦 (Miss them already), The Starting Line, Thrice and Further Seems Forever covering the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Michelle Branch and N’Sync.

With Punk Goes Pop Vol.7, featuring huge artists like Boston Manor, Dance Gavin Dance, Greyscale and Andy Black, just around the corner here is my list of the 10 best songs Punk Goes Pop has provided us with so far.

Post-Hardcore band Secrets Swapped the Travie McCoy rap for them screaming versus, and it works so brilliantly well. It’s a perfect example of the ‘Punk Goes Pop’ series doing exactly what it intended, making a song that should never work as a post hardcore track work perfectly!

Front woman Lyndsey Gunnulfsen has a huge voice and she totally showed it off in this cover of Sia’s 2014 hit song ‘Chandelier’ on Punk Goes Pop Vol.6 adding that beat heavy rock sound and you’ve got one hell of a cover!

Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ which was recorded as the biggest track 2014 (Released November 2013) just short of 14 Million units across the globe, it was covered amazingly by Palisades. The electronicore, New Jersey lads totally made it their own whilst, I think, still keeping that upbeat and pop feel to it. It’s no small feat covering the biggest selling song of the year!

‘J-Lo’ released this song back in 2001 and being only 10 years old back then I say without shame that i probably loved it. Then came the original ‘Punk Goes Pop’ album in 2002 and it was definitely filled with golden moments, this one definitely stands out for me. American Pop Punkers ‘The Starting Line’ put an amazing stamp on it, a fast paced punk version for us to enjoy. Its so incredibly catchy that after one listen its hard to turn it off!

There was no need for American Pop Punk band ‘Knuckle Puck’ (Who originally started out as a cover band!) to change this song too much. it was a huge song when the 1975 released it back in 2013 and ‘Knuckle Puck’ definitely did it justice. It was enough just to hear a cover of ‘Chocolate’ from the guys with that punk edge it sounds fantastic.

What a combination right? The Maine and Taking Back Sunday frontman, rock legend to so many, Adam Lazzara. It all just works so well too. They slow the song right down and make into a ballad that is as beautiful as this song could ever sound. It’s perfect, i’ll say no more, just listen to it if you haven’t already!

Although this song has just been released as a single off the upcoming ‘Punk Goes Pop Vol.7′ (Released 14th July) I’ve hardly stopped playing it. In classic Dance Gavin Dance style Will Swan and the guys give us groovy post hardcore, mix their sound with that hip hop soul of Bruno Mars’ ‘That’s What I Like’ and you get something extremely special. Tilian Pearson’s voice just works spectacularly for this cover and Jon Mess is stand out as always.

This is probably a lot of peoples number one favourite of the ‘Punk Goes Pop’ series and i’d agree that it is an amazing song in its own right and it is done in classic ‘Yellowcard’ style. I played this on repeat hundreds and hundreds of times when I first heard it all them years ago and I still listen to it now. Just like Yellowcard themselves this song will stand the test of time with us huge Punk fans!

Another huge mainstream hit covered on the ‘Punk Goes Pop’ series was Adele’s 2010 smash hit ‘Rolling In The Deep’. Go Radio absolutely belt this one out and though probably one of the more simple songs to cover they went above and beyond to make sure that they did something special with this track. Jason Lancaster’s voice has always been a staple in my life, from Mayday Parade in their earlier years and with Go Radio after that, his voice really is transcendent and for me it makes this song huge! That key change! Perfect!!

For me, this has got to be number one! Where do I even start? Jonny Craig always brings the soul out in every song. The passion we love to hear from him shines as always in that limitless voice. The Neighbourhood’s ‘Sweater Weather’ is a great song anyway but put Jonny Craig on the track and you’ve got, in my opinion, the best song of all the ‘Punk Goes Pop’ albums so far.

So Punk goes pop vol.7 is released on July 14th and I can’t wait to hear what it has to offer. The whole track list has already been announced and you can check that out by clicking here.
